The Hayward AquaRite Pro Low Salt for up to 75 m³ is an advanced salt electrolysis system for the automatic disinfection of swimming pool water. The system combines the convenience of automatic chlorine production with a relatively low salt content of only 1 to 3 grams per liter of water. This allows you to enjoy clear and hygienic pool water without having to constantly dose chlorine tablets or chlorine granules manually.
This model is suitable for swimming pools up to 75 m³ (75,000 liters) and can be combined with the Hayward Sense & Dispense pH and ORP module. This expands the installation into a complete automatic water treatment system that not only disinfects, but also continuously monitors the pH and Redox/ORP value of the pool water.
The AquaRite Pro Low Salt is therefore particularly suitable for pool owners looking for a professional and highly automated solution for their water treatment.
Low Salt: only 1 to 3 grams of salt per liter
The most important difference between the AquaRite Pro Low Salt and traditional salt electrolysis systems is the relatively low salt concentration required.
For proper operation, approximately 1 to 3 grams of salt per liter of pool water is needed. For a 75,000-liter pool, this means approximately 75 to 225 kg of salt, depending on the chosen concentration.
A lower salt content has several advantages. The pool water tastes and feels less salty, and the salt load on the technical equipment remains more limited. As a result, the risk of corrosion to metals and stainless steel components is also reduced compared to systems that operate with a higher salt concentration.
A correct water balance, equipotential bonding, and the use of suitable materials remain important for every saltwater installation.
How does the AquaRite Pro Low Salt work?
The operating principle is simple yet highly effective. The necessary salt is added to the pool water once and dissolves completely.
The water is then pumped from the pool to the filtration system by the circulation pump. After the water has been filtered, it flows through the electrolysis cell of the AquaRite Pro.
In this cell, the dissolved salt is converted into an active disinfectant using an electrical current. This combats bacteria, algae, and other microorganisms.
After the disinfection process, a significant portion is reformed. As a result, the salt does not need to be added again constantly. Replenishing is mainly necessary when actual pool water is lost, for example, due to backwashing the sand filter, splashing, or partial water replacement.
Suitable for swimming pools up to 75 m³
This version of the AquaRite Pro Low Salt is suitable for private swimming pools with a water capacity of up to a maximum of 75,000 liters.
When sizing a salt electrolysis system, it is wise not to look solely at the maximum pool volume. The actual chlorine requirement is also influenced by:
- water temperature;
- number of swimmers;
- daily filtration time;
- amount of sunlight;
- use of a pool cover;
- organic load of the water;
- desired swimming season.
A pool that, for example, lies uncovered in full sun all day and is used intensively requires more from an electrolysis system than a well-covered pool with limited use.
Automatic pH and ORP control with Sense & Dispense
In combination with the Hayward Sense & Dispense module, the AquaRite Pro becomes a particularly complete water treatment system.
Sense & Dispense continuously monitors two essential values of the pool water: pH and ORP/Redox.
pH control
A correct pH value is essential for effective disinfection. For most private swimming pools, a pH between approximately 7.2 and 7.6 is maintained.
If the pH becomes too high, the effectiveness of the chlorine produced decreases. A pH that is too low can make the pool water more aggressive to materials and, furthermore, less comfortable for swimmers.
The pH sensor therefore continuously measures the current value. In combination with suitable dosing equipment, pH-correcting agent can then be added automatically.
This keeps the water balance much more constant than when measuring and correcting solely by hand.
ORP / Redox control
The ORP or Redox sensor measures the oxidation potential of the pool water. This gives the system information about the current disinfecting effect of the water.
When sufficient disinfecting capacity is present, the AquaRite Pro does not need to continue producing chlorine unnecessarily. When the demand increases, for example after intensive swimming, the system can react accordingly.
As a result, chlorine production is tuned much more accurately to the current conditions in the pool.
Protection against overproduction of chlorine
The AquaRite Pro features an integrated function that helps prevent excessive chlorine production.
This is particularly interesting when the system is used in combination with ORP control. The installation then does not simply continue producing at a fixed percentage, but can better adjust production to the measured water quality.
This ensures more stable water treatment and prevents unnecessary load on the electrolysis cell.
Self-cleaning salt cell via polarity reversal
During the electrolysis process, lime can deposit on the electrodes of the salt cell. Especially with hard pool water, this can reduce performance over time.
Therefore, the AquaRite Pro Low Salt features automatic polarity reversal. In this process, the electrical polarity of the electrodes is periodically reversed, which limits lime buildup.
The automatic cleaning cycle can be reversed within a maximum of approximately 2 hours.
This reduces the required manual maintenance and contributes to a longer service life of the electrolysis cell.
However, the cell remains an important wear part. Periodic visual inspection is therefore still recommended, especially with hard water.
Service life of the electrolysis cell
Under the right conditions, the cell has a specified service life of up to approximately 10,000 operating hours.
The actual service life depends on, among other things:
- daily operating time;
- set production percentage;
- salt concentration;
- pH value;
- calcium hardness;
- water temperature;
- maintenance;
- quality of the water balance.
By correctly sizing the system and maintaining the water values properly, the service life of the cell can be significantly optimized.
Minimum flow of 2.9 m³/h
For safe operation, sufficient water must flow through the electrolysis cell.
The AquaRite Pro Low Salt requires a minimum water flow of approximately 2.9 m³ per hour.
The system therefore includes a flow detector / flow protection. If insufficient water flow is detected, chlorine production is protected.
This prevents the electrolysis cell from remaining active when, for example, the circulation pump is turned off or when the water flow has significantly decreased due to a blockage.
Minimum water temperature of approximately 15°C
The pool water must be at least approximately 15°C before the electrolysis is used.
This is especially important when starting up the pool in the spring. When the water is still very cold, the installation should not immediately be set to normal electrolysis production.
This must also be taken into account when winterizing.
Clear digital control box
The AquaRite Pro is controlled via a professional control box with a clear digital display.
Through the menu structure, the most important settings and current values can be viewed and adjusted. The system also displays the current operating status and any faults or warnings via LED indicators.
Operation is carried out via function keys with a water-resistant membrane, making the control box excellent for mounting in a pool equipment room.
Installation in the return pipe
The electrolysis cell is placed in the return pipe to the pool.
The pool water is filtered first and then flows through the remaining technical equipment before returning to the pool via the electrolysis cell.
A typical technical installation can be set up as follows, for example:
Swimming pool → circulation pump → sand filter → heat pump → measuring and dosing system → electrolysis cell → return to pool
The precise position of the Sense & Dispense sensors, dosing injection, and electrolysis cell must always be carried out according to Hayward's installation instructions.
Less manual chlorine addition
An important practical advantage of the AquaRite Pro Low Salt is that the system produces its own disinfectant.
As a result, you do not have to constantly place chlorine tablets in a chlorine floater or skimmer during normal operation. The regular manual addition of chlorine granules is also greatly reduced.
In combination with Sense & Dispense, a large part of the pH control can also be automated.
Of course, the pool will continue to require maintenance. Regularly checking pH, free chlorine, alkalinity, salt content, and other water values remains wise, even when automatic measuring and dosing equipment is present.
