Tips & Advice
Which heat pump is most suitable for my above-ground swimming pool?
As summer approaches, it is time to get your above-ground pool ready for endless swimming fun. However, to enjoy it to the fullest, it is also essential to purchase a heat pump. This allows you to keep the water at a pleasant temperature and extend the swimming season. But which heat pump is suitable for your situation? We are here to help you get started! When will you be swimming? The swimming season for an above-ground pool generally runs from May through August. During this period, it is possible to heat the water to a comfortable 28°C, provided the right heat pump is chosen. The performance of a heat pump depends on the outdoor temperature, so keep this in mind when making your choice. How do you determine the right capacity? The heating capacity of a heat pump is expressed in kilowatts (kW). The larger your pool, the more power you need. A handy rule of thumb is: you need approximately 1 kW per 4 m³ of water. This means the following: Up to 12 m³: 3 kW heat pump Up to 20 m³: 5 kW heat pump Up to 32 m³: 8 kW heat pump Up to 40 m³: 10 kW heat pump Do you want to be sure that your water stays at the right temperature quickly and efficiently? Then it is better to choose a heat pump with slightly more power. Standard or inverter heat pump? There are two types of heat pumps: standard and inverter models. A standard heat pump works with an on/off system and always runs at full power. An inverter heat pump automatically adjusts its output, making it more energy-efficient and quieter. In the long term, you will save on energy costs with an inverter heat pump, even though the purchase price is often slightly higher. What is the COP value? The COP value (Coefficient of Performance) indicates how efficiently a heat pump works. A higher COP value means the heat pump generates more heat per kW of power consumption. For example, a heat pump with a COP of 4 provides 4 kW of heat for every 1 kW of electricity it consumes. The higher the COP, the more energy-efficient the device. Other important features In addition to capacity and energy consumption, there are other factors to consider: Noise level: A quiet heat pump provides more comfort in your garden. Air outlet: Horizontal air outlets require more space than vertical models. Connection: Check whether the heat pump connects to the 32/38 mm hoses of your pool. Wi-Fi control: Some heat pumps can be operated via an app for extra convenience. Installation and use Installing a heat pump for your above-ground pool is quite simple. Ensure that the pump is positioned correctly, the pipes are properly connected, and the power supply is arranged safely. A bypass can help regulate the water flow to the heat pump better, thereby optimizing efficiency. With the right heat pump, you can enjoy your above-ground pool to the fullest without the water getting too cold. Choose a model that suits your pool and your needs, and get ready for a wonderful swimming season!
