Getting your swimming pool ready for summer: here’s how!

The first warm days are approaching, and you naturally want to enjoy your pool as soon as possible. Proper preparation is essential to make your pool fresh, clean, and safe for the new swimming season. Follow the steps below and start enjoying clear and healthy pool water in no time!

1. Removing and cleaning the cover

✔ Remove dirt from the cover – Use a leaf net to remove leaves and other debris.
✔ Remove excess water – Use a submersible pump or bucket if there is water on top of the cover.
✔ Clean the cover – Rinse it with clean water and a soft brush, let it dry thoroughly, and store it in a dry place.

2. Cleaning the pool and surrounding area

✔ Clean the skimmers – Remove leaves and coarse dirt with a surface skimmer net.
✔ Brush the walls and floor – Use a pool brush to loosen dirt and residue.
✔ Vacuum – Remove dirt with a manual or automatic pool vacuum.
✔ Remove waterline grease – Use a wall scrubbing brush or a soft sponge with a special cleaning agent.

3. Refilling the water level

✔ Refill the pool to the normal level with clean tap water.
⚠ Do not use well water or groundwater because of the high iron content, which can discolor the water.

4. Checking and starting the filter system

✔ Replace old filter media – Is the filter sand older than 5 years? Replace it for better filtration.
✔ Backwash the filter thoroughly – Do this for at least 3 minutes before you start filtering.
✔ Run the filter system – For at least 3 days continuously, depending on the water quality.
✔ Heavily soiled pool? – Backwash multiple times a day (up to 4 or 5 times) to effectively remove dirt.

5. Checking and balancing the water

✔ Measure the pH level – Use test strips or a digital tester.
✔ Correct if necessary:

  • pH too high (>7.6)? Use pH-Minus.
  • pH too low (<7.2)? Use pH-Plus.
✔ Dissolve chemicals in a bucket of lukewarm water and add to the pool.
⚠ Never add water to chemicals!

6. Adding chlorine and shocking if necessary

✔ Shock treatment needed? – When the water is green or milky white, or if you measure no chlorine but smell a strong chlorine odor.
✔ Apply a chlorine shock according to the dosage on the packaging.
✔ Perform the shock treatment in the evening and wait 24 hours before swimming.

7. Keep the filter running and continue testing

✔ Let the pump run for at least another 3 days to fully clean the water.
✔ Regularly check and correct the chlorine and pH levels.
✔ Use chlorine tablets for continuous disinfection and place them in a chlorine floater.
⚠ Remove the chlorine floater while swimming.

Your pool is ready for summer! ☀️🏊‍♂️

By following these steps, you ensure your pool is clean, safe, and ready for endless swimming fun. Continue to regularly check water quality and perform minor maintenance to keep your pool in top condition all summer long.

Happy swimming!
