With the Small High-density Polystyrene pool block, you build the foundation for your own swimming pool step by step. The compact size of 100 x 25 x 25 cm and the low weight make the blocks easy to handle and place. At the same time, the insulating polystyrene helps to limit heat loss through the pool walls.
The blocks form a permanent formwork for a reinforced concrete pool wall. During construction, you install steel reinforcement and fill the blocks with concrete. This combines the ease of working with polystyrene with the strength of a concrete structure. A practical solution for DIY builders and pool builders who want to create a custom-made insulated pool.
Compact size and easy to work with
The Small version has a length of 100 cm, a width of 25 cm and a height of 25 cm. This handy size makes it easy to move the blocks, align them and build them up layer by layer.
With each layer, you increase the wall by 25 cm. Six layers are required for a wall height of 1.50 meters. Each block represents a wall surface of 0.25 m², so you need four blocks for one square meter of straight wall. Corner joints, recesses and cutting waste must be calculated separately.
Stackable building system with permanent formwork
The polystyrene blocks are placed on a prepared foundation and together form the formwork of the pool wall. During construction, the required reinforcement is installed. Once the structure is ready and checked for dimensions and stability, the blocks are filled with concrete according to the system instructions.
After filling, the blocks remain in place. Therefore, no temporary formwork of the walls needs to be removed. The polystyrene remains part of the wall construction and provides an insulating layer around the concrete core.
A solid foundation with concrete and steel reinforcement
The structural strength of the pool wall is created by the combination of concrete, steel reinforcement and a correctly executed foundation. The blocks make it possible to build this concrete wall in an organized manner.
The required reinforcement and the execution of the floor slab must match the pool design and the conditions on the construction site. The position of any stairs, tanning ledges and other structural components must also be determined in advance. In this way, the entire pool construction forms a cohesive whole.
Insulating walls for less heat loss
Expanded polystyrene, also known as EPS or Styrofoam, naturally has insulating properties. The blocks therefore help to limit the heat transfer between the pool water and the surrounding soil. In a heated pool, this can contribute to a lower energy requirement to keep the water at temperature.
How much heat the pool retains depends on the complete execution. In addition to wall insulation, factors such as floor insulation, a pool cover, weather conditions and the desired water temperature play a role. The polystyrene pool blocks therefore form part of a well-insulated pool.
Room for your pool design
The building system is suitable for constructing structural pool walls. With suitable components and a good structural design, elements such as entry stairs and tanning ledges can also be included in the design.
During preparation, determine where the lighting, return fittings and other wall penetrations should be placed. These components are incorporated into the walls during the construction phase. By fixing their position in advance, you prevent major adjustments after the concrete has been applied.
From foundation to watertight finish
The construction begins with excavating and preparing the construction pit. Next, the floor reinforcement and the concrete floor slab are installed according to the construction plan. A flat, correctly executed floor slab forms the basis for accurately placing the first row of blocks.
Then the walls are built up layer by layer, including reinforcement and built-in components. The connecting of the blocks and filling them with concrete are done according to the processing instructions of this version.
After filling, the walls are prepared for a suitable watertight pool lining. The blocks and the reinforced concrete core form the wall construction; the lining provides the watertight finish and the final appearance of the pool.
Calculate the required materials in advance
For an initial material estimate, you can assume four blocks per square meter of straight wall. The final quantity depends on the dimensions, corner details, recesses and any additional elements. Therefore, allow for a reserve for cutting waste and damage.
The required concrete volume depends on the internal construction of the Small block. Use the product specifications of this version for this purpose. Calculate the concrete for the floor slab, stairs and other components separately, so that you have a complete overview of the required materials.
