W'eau HDPE-500 top-mount sand filter 12m³

The W’eau HDPE-500 Top Mount sand filter 12 m³/h is a powerful sand filter for medium to larger private swimming pools. With a maximum flow rate of an impressive 12 m³ per hour and a spacious 500 mm filter tank, this model offers significantly more filtering capacity than the smaller models in the W’eau HDPE series.

The filter tank is manufactured from durable HDPE (High Density Polyethylene). This durable plastic is perfectly suited for use around swimming pools: it is moisture-resistant, corrosion-proof, and provides a sturdy base for years of use. Additionally, the top-mounted 6-way valve ensures a compact installation and makes operating and maintaining the sand filter easy.

This makes the HDPE-500 an excellent choice if you are looking for a powerful, reliable, and user-friendly sand filter for a larger above-ground pool, steel-wall pool, wooden pool, or in-ground pool.

Powerful filtration up to 12,000 liters per hour

With a maximum flow rate of 12 m³/h, the W’eau HDPE-500 can process up to approximately 12,000 liters of pool water per hour.

During filtration, the pool pump draws water from the pool and feeds it to the sand filter. Inside the filter tank, the water is passed through the filter medium. Small dirt particles get trapped within the filter sand or filter glass, after which the filtered water flows back to the pool through the return line.

By repeating this process for several hours a day, the entire pool volume is regularly circulated through the filter. In combination with the correct pH level and disinfection, this contributes to clean, clear, and pleasant pool water.

Large 500 mm filter tank

The heart of this sand filter is the spacious 500 mm filter tank.

A larger filter tank provides more room for filter medium, resulting in a greater effective filtering surface. This allows the filter to capture more dirt, making the HDPE-500 ideally suited for installations where a significant amount of pool water is circulated daily.

Compared to, for example, a 350, 400, or 450 mm sand filter, the 500 mm tank offers extra capacity. This makes the HDPE-500 especially attractive for larger pools or situations where you deliberately want a bit of extra filtering capacity.

Compact Top Mount design

Despite the larger filter tank, the W’eau HDPE-500 remains relatively compact thanks to its Top Mount design.

The 6-way valve is located directly on top of the filter tank. This requires less clearance next to the sand filter compared to a Side Mount version, where the valve is positioned on the side.

This makes the HDPE-500 suitable for installation in, for example, a technical room, pump box, pool house, or garden shed.

Do make sure to leave enough room above the sand filter so that the 6-way valve can be operated easily and the filter remains accessible for maintenance.

6-way valve for full control

With the multi-functional 6-way valve, you can easily control what happens with the pool water. The various positions allow for both daily filtration and maintenance.

Filter
The normal operating position. The water is passed through the filter medium and then sent back to the pool.

Backwash
The water flow is reversed. This loosens accumulated dirt from the filter bed and discharges it through the waste line.

Rinse
Use this after backwashing. The filter medium is re-settled, and remaining dirt is sent to the drain.

Waste
The water goes directly to the drain without passing through the filter medium. This position can be used, for example, to lower the pool water level.

Circulate
The pool water circulates through the system without passing through the filter medium.

Closed
Shuts off the water flow through the 6-way valve.

Important: always switch the pool pump off completely before turning the 6-way valve to a different position.

Easy cleaning with Backwash

One of the main advantages of a sand filter is its simple maintenance.

During the swimming season, more and more dirt collects in the filter medium. This increases resistance and can eventually reduce water flow.

With the Backwash function, you can clean the filter bed without having to open the filter tank. The water flow is reversed, loosening dirt between the filter material and flushing it out through the drain.

After backwashing, briefly set the system to Rinse. Then, the valve can be set back to Filter.

This allows the same filter medium to be used for a long time.

Suitable for filter sand

The traditional choice for the HDPE-500 is filter sand.

Filter sand has a specially selected grain size that traps small impurities between the sand grains while allowing pool water to continue flowing through.

Only use filter sand specifically intended for pool filters. Regular construction or play sand is not suitable for this.

A correctly filled filter tank ensures a stable filter bed and proper distribution of the pool water.

Also suitable for filter glass

Would you rather not use traditional filter sand? Then the W’eau HDPE-500 can also be filled with suitable filter glass.

Filter glass is a popular alternative to sand. The material generally has a long lifespan, and, depending on the product used, you need fewer kilograms of it than traditional filter sand.

Additionally, quality filter glass can provide very fine filtration.

Always use the quantity and grain size prescribed by the manufacturer of the filter medium.

Strong HDPE filter tank

HDPE stands for High Density Polyethylene.

This material combines a sturdy construction with a relatively low weight. Moreover, the material cannot rust, which is a major advantage in a technical room where moisture is frequently present.

As a result, the filter tank is perfectly suited for swimming pool applications and, with proper use, can last for many swimming seasons.

Ideal for medium and larger pools

With its capacity of 12 m³/h, the HDPE-500 is especially attractive for medium to larger private swimming pools.

The filter can be used for, among others:

• Other fixed in-ground and above-ground pools

When sizing a filter system, you should not only look at the pool volume. The pump capacity, pipe diameter, pipe length, height differences, and any accessories also play a role.

Combine with a suitable pool pump

The W’eau HDPE-500 is a sand filter and not a complete sand filter set. The pool pump must therefore be selected separately.

It is important that the actual flow rate of the pump matches the filter vessel. A pump that is far too powerful can push water through the filter bed too quickly and exceed the maximum allowed flow rate of the filter.

Conversely, a pump that is too small may not provide sufficient circulation.

Therefore, always match the pump and sand filter to each other.

Excellent to combine with a heat pump

The HDPE-500 can be excellently used in a pool installation with a heat pump.

A commonly used installation order is:

Pool → pool pump → W’eau HDPE-500 sand filter → bypass → heat pump → pool

The water is thus filtered first before flowing through the heat exchanger of the heat pump. This helps prevent dirt from the pool from entering the heat pump directly.

A bypass can subsequently be used to regulate how much of the filtered pool water is directed through the heat pump.

Good choice for longer pipes

In a pool installation, a portion of the theoretical pump capacity is always lost due to resistance.

Bends, valves, pipe length, height differences, a heat pump, and other components can all affect the final water flow.

The higher capacity of the HDPE-500 makes this model attractive for more extensive pool installations. Of course, the connected pool pump must also have sufficient capacity here to overcome the system resistance.
